Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has affirmed his status as a genuine member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In response to speculation regarding his potential departure from the PDP for another political party, the former PDP presidential candidate dismissed such claims as entirely unfounded and lacking in logical basis.
Atiku has been actively engaged in discussions concerning an opposition coalition in anticipation of the 2027 elections, a dialogue he initiated shortly after the conclusion of the 2023 general elections.
In addressing the rumors of his defection, the Atiku Media Office emphasized that Atiku remains a key and genuine member of the PDP, which is the principal opposition party.
“It is important to remember that Atiku Abubakar has consistently advocated for a coalition of opposition political parties in Nigeria in preparation for the 2027 general election, with the goal of displacing the ineffective and detrimental All Progressives Congress, thereby providing Nigerians with a renewed opportunity for progress.
“Atiku is promoting a comprehensive coalition that would include all opposition parties, the PDP being one of them.
“Thus, any assertion that the Waziri is abandoning the PDP is both erroneous and baseless. Such claims contradict the very purpose of the grand coalition that the former Vice President is currently championing alongside other distinguished political figures in the nation.
“We wish to clarify unequivocally that Atiku remains a key and genuine member of the PDP, the leading opposition party,” the office stated.
The media office further noted that any suggestion to the contrary is designed to mislead the public regarding the significance of the grand coalition aimed at liberating Nigeria from the control of the ruling APC.
