US President Donald Trump intends to relocate residents of the Gaza Strip to Somalia and Morocco during the reconstruction phase following the conflict with Israel. This information has been reported by the Israeli news outlet N12, which cites various sources.
Specifically, the report indicates that the White House aims to settle Gaza residents in the regions of Somaliland and Puntland, an autonomous region in the nort-east os Somalia, both of which are unrecognized territories in the Horn of Africa, in exchange for their acknowledgment of independence. Furthermore, should Morocco consent to this plan proposed by the 47th president of the United States, it would facilitate the recognition of Western Sahara as part of Moroccan territory. The report highlights that all three regions predominantly consist of Sunni Muslims, similar to the Palestinian population.
Although Trump announced the resettlement initiative for Gaza residents on February 4, the sources suggest that the White House has already formulated a comprehensive plan for the accommodation of Palestinians and has communicated this to the families of Israelis abducted by Hamas. However, a specific timeline for the implementation of this plan has not yet been established.
The announcement regarding the resettlement of Gaza Strip residents was made by Trump during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in early February. He mentioned that Egypt and Jordan are among the nations he believes would be open to accepting Palestinians during the reconstruction period. Trump also noted that a total of “five or six zones” could potentially be established to house the people of Gaza.
