ADC Unveils New National Secretariat

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) inaugurated its new national secretariat in Abuja on Friday. The party’s national chairman, David Mark, stated that this event signifies “a defining moment” for both the party and the democratic future of the country, indicating that “it will no longer be business as usual.”

The new national headquarters is located in Wuse 2, within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The event took place in the central area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and attracted a formidable coalition of opposition leaders, including former Transportation Minister Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, and Rauf Aregbesola, who serves as the party’s national secretary. Other notable attendees included former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, Hajiya Nàja’atu Mohammed, Senator Dino Melaye, Emeka Ihedioha, Solomon Dalung, Dele Momodu, Gabriel Suswam, Ireti Kingibe, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (rtd), members of the National Executive Committee, and former party national chairman Ralph Nwosu. They gathered to officially unveil the party’s national secretariat, signaling a readiness for the 2027 general elections.

The ADC also emphasized that its ticket is not reserved for any prospective presidential candidate. David Mark remarked that the four-level complex signifies more than just a physical move, describing it as the foundation for a disciplined, visionary, and people-oriented movement.

He stated that the unveiling represents the ADC’s evolution into “a historic child of necessity” influenced by the Nigerian populace’s demand for effective governance, accountability, and a more robust democratic culture.

He mentioned that the new headquarters will function as the party’s operational nerve centre where strategies will be developed, ideas will be honed, and future leaders will be nurtured.

He indicated that it will also promote efforts to fortify institutions, enhance communities, and safeguard democratic principles.

Urging for unity, he proclaimed that the time of internal discord has ended, “Let today represent the emergence of a stronger, more disciplined, and more people-focused party with a singular agenda: to serve Nigeria and its citizens,” he remarked.

In response to inquiries from journalists, National Publicity Secretary Malam Bolaji Abdullahi refuted assertions that the building was a donation from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

He clarified that Atiku merely leased the property during his presidential campaign and that the lease had long since expired.

“This building has never belonged to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. The ADC is currently the tenant. Atiku has no connection to our movement here,” he stated.

Abdullahi noted that the presence of numerous potential presidential candidates at the unveiling illustrated that the party’s trajectory is not dependent on any single individual.

He also affirmed that as the party gears up to initiate nationwide membership registration and validation, the waivers provided to notable figures, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, to regularize their membership remain in effect, despite the conclusion of off-season elections.

Regarding the party’s performance in the recent Anambra governorship election, Abdullahi stated that the results do not accurately represent the ADC’s national strength. He emphasized that the political dynamics in Anambra are distinct and that the majority of pre-election processes were finalized prior to the formation of the coalition.

He further mentioned that Nigerians are actively looking for an alternative to the APC, and the ADC aims to prove that it is a viable option while remaining receptive to potential alliances.

In addressing internal matters, Abdullahi recognized the presence of competing interests but noted that disagreements have been kept to a minimum due to a prevailing culture of fairness and justice.

He also confirmed that the legacy State chairmen would continue in their roles as previously promised, and that numerous state chapters are already in the process of establishing transition committees in preparation for congresses scheduled for February.
