” We did it in Rivers State; it can be done in the country. We are prepared to help if you request help.”
In light of the recent wave of attacks by terrorist groups within the nation, former Minister of Transportation during the Muhammadu Buhari administration, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has proposed solutions to Nigeria’s numerous security challenges.
In a statement, the former Governor of Rivers State, past Minister of Transportation, and prominent figure in the ADC, Rt. Hon. Barr Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi CON, remarked: “It is evident that the current government lacks the political will to address the ongoing killings and terrorist assaults affecting our nation today. The government has not succeeded in ensuring adequate protection for its citizens, as demonstrated by the increase in terrorist attacks and mass kidnappings in various regions of the country, which pose a significant threat to our national security. This failure to take decisive action has unfortunately emboldened terrorists and diminished public confidence.”
The former minister highlighted several recent incidents that have sparked unrest among Nigerians, stating, “The relentless assaults on innocent individuals in Plateau; the reported attack and abduction of secondary schoolgirls in Kebbi; an ambush on soldiers in Borno that led to the abduction and death of Brigadier General M. Uba; the assault on a church in Kwara; and the kidnapping of a priest, Rev. Fr. Bobbo Paschal, in Kaduna—all occurring within a single week—are far too significant to overlook.
He urged the Tinubu-led administration to take swift action, asserting, “The Federal Government must enhance its efforts, refine its response to terrorist threats, bolster military intelligence and tactical operations, and meet the expectations of its citizens.”
The statement emphasized the vital importance of security and the government’s responsibility to its populace.
He said: “To Mr. President: your primary assignment is the security of lives and property. Enough of looking the other way or issuing watery statements of condemnation. Prioritizing a summit or jetting out for whatever reason when Nigerians are dying can never be the trait of a good leader. It is time to probe wrong decisions, strategize, and make tough calls. The current situation calls for decisive leadership, stronger intelligence coordination, and accountability.”
He consequently suggested taking proactive steps that were exemplified during his tenure as the governor of Rivers State, assuring that ” We did it in Rivers State; it can be done in the country. We are prepared to help if you request help.”
