The African Democratic Congress (ADC) held its first caucus meeting under the new David Mark led leadership on Thursday in Abuja, and advised all its members to resign their membership of other political parties.
Two key resolutions were made at the meeting. First, all the presidential aspirants agreed to support whoever wins the party’s primary election. And second, they agreed to deemphasize on the registration of their proposed alternative party, the ADA, a move that suggested that the coalition leaders have finally settled for the ADC.
At the meeting were National Chairman David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf, former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, former Sokoto State governor Senator Aminu Tambuwal, former Kaduna State governor, and Chibuike Amaechi.
However, the National Leader of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, was absent but sent an apology after giving his commitment.
In a statement after the meeting, the Interim National Publicity Secretary, of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said:
“All the presidential aspirants have agreed to support whoever wins the primaries election.
“Though final order has been given to all members to resign membership of other political parties, the Causus was silent on the timeline.
“The NWC will announce dates for Osun and Èkìtì for election of candidates for the off-cycle governorship elections,”
