2027: NNPP Remains Opened to Joining Coalition – Ajuji

The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ajuji Ahmed, says the party is open to political alliance ahead of the 2027 election but that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is not automatically entitled to the presidential ticket.

Speaking uuring a recent interview, Ahmed dismissed the claim made by a “faction” that there was a crisis in the party, explaining that those who claimed to be faction members had been suspended and subsequently expelled for anti-party activities when they refused to appear before disciplinary committee set u by the party. He explained that the legal maneuvers that they employed in an attempt to win back control of the NNPP—including a controversial ruling by a relatively little known court—were revoked on appeal.

He insisted that the NNPP is still an intact entity, functioning properly, working in line with its constitution, and is recognised by the National Electoral Commission (INEC). About ‘claimed’ outcome of party congresses , Ahmed insisted that there wasn’tany internal division on the matter, and the allegations are ensueing from expelled elements who are making-up “problems”, with some of them even pretending to being officials of the party.

Reacting to insinuations that the party has links with “Kwankwasiya movement,” the chairman said the NNPP does not belong to any individual or group, stressing it is open to all Nigerians. The party, he noted, is making efforts to expand beyond Kwankwaso’s’ ‘closed’ hold on Kano since becoming president requires a broader national support.

Reacting to the recent defection of some lawmakers, Ahmed said everyone has got right to move just as defections would not weaken NNPP and that new members always come into the party few minutes after some quit.

On the 2027 polls, he noted that NNPP had not ruled out going in its own way, forming an alliance , adopting any viable political party as a platform on which to contest or selecting a broadly acceptable candidate. In whatever case, he stressed that it is essential to respect the party’s internal processes.

He further explained that the party’s presidential ticket is available to all aspirants. Kwankwaso, he said, like any other member, must adhere to the party’s internal procedures and is not assured of automatically receiving the nomination.

The chairman also highlighted the party’s fundamental priorities: enhancing the welfare of ordinary Nigerians through universal education, affordable healthcare, and improved national security. He committed that an NNPP-led government would eliminate medical tourism within four years by bolstering domestic health facilities.

Regarding insecurity, particularly in the North, Ahmed, the party chairman attributed it to widespread unemployment, poverty, and ineffective government action. He condemned the deployment of Nigerian troops abroad while local communities remain vulnerable.

The NNPP chairman also criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, characterizing it as overwhelmed by hunger, hardship, and insecurity, and accused it of making promises of future relief while neglecting the current suffering of citizens.
