Nigeria’s government has been severely shaken by a massive corruption scandal involving a staggering N28 Billion “ghost organization” and allegations of multi-billion-Naira illicit payments occurring within the Presidency.
The crisis escalation has led the national opposition leader, former Vice President, and the Presidential candidate of the ADC, Atiku Abubaka, to urgently advise President Bola Tinubu that being apathetic is not an option, demanding the immediate suspension of his closest aide and confidant from office..
At the center of the unfolding political turmoil is Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the influential Chief of Staff to President Tinubu and former Speaker of the House of Representatives. Gbajabiamila is accused of orchestrating blackmail and accepting substantial kickbacks related to a controversial government entity called the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
In a scathing statement released today by the Atiku Media Office, the former Vice President fully supports a set of shocking accusations initially brought up by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the Director-General of the embattled council. Adeyemi caused a major uproar in the country last week by alleging that Gbajabiamila requested a significant 400 million Naira through an intermediary to secure his high-level presidential role.
Furthermore, the whistleblower, who is the Director-General of the ‘phantom\ agency, stated that the Chief of Staff aggressively asked for an extra 200 million Naira and a substantial 48 percent share of the agency’s multi-billion Naira starting fund. In a desperate bid to quell the growing controversy, Gbajabiamila released a strong public denial, asserting that the PFIPC is not officially recognized under the current administration and labeling Adeyemi as a blatant con artist.
However, the national opposition leader, Atiku Abubakar, strongly criticized that defense, highlighting that official government records show a completely different—and very damning picture..
-The Chief of Staff claimed the agency was a fabrication, but investigations revealed that it was clearly included in Nigeria’s official 2026 National Budget. The approved financial plan detailed a significant allocation of around 27.4 billion Naira designated specifically for the personnel, operational costs, and projects of the supposedly “non-existent” council.
Reacting to the alarming financial inconsistency, Atiku inquired, “How can 27.4 billion Naira be allocated in the budget to a government agency that isn’t real, raising more questions than answers? This apparent massive budgetary deception cannot be ignored by feeble and unconvincing justifications from the Chief of Staff.”
Atiku, who is running for the country’s presidency under the flag of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), cautioned that this strange irregularity completely destroys the credibility of Nigeria’s entire 2026 national budget.
This recent scandal comes at a time of significant economic instability in Nigeria. Since assuming office in 2023, President Bola Tinubu has implemented highly controversial economic reforms, such as ending long-standing fuel subsidies and allowing the local currency to float.
While some Western governments and global financial organizations like the IMF and the World Bank have cautiously supported Tinubu’s economic changes, ordinary Nigerians are facing severe challenges due to sky-high inflation and an overwhelming cost-of-living crisis. Revelations of high-level institutional corruption involving sums far exceeding typical national projects have sparked widespread public anger across the country..
Additionally, the scandal has taken a dark and ominous turn. Prince Adeyemi stated that he survived a violent assassination attempt on the dangerous Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, during which crucial documents and phones with links to the presidency were stolen.
He also connected the situation to the mysterious and unsolved death of an alleged intermediary, Babatunde Tanimola, who reportedly died in a suspicious hotel fire in Abuja towards the end of last year.
As the official response of the government is being awaited, Atiku challenged President Tinubu to demonstrate his anti-corruption stance by immediately dismissing his close associate to enable an entirely independent investigation. A part of Atiku’s statement reads:
”Good governance is based on transparency and accountability, and you can’t achieve that by protecting your family and friends,” Atiku declared firmly. “President Tinubu must lead by example by holding his Chief of Staff to the same standards of accountability as other public officials.
”Twenty-seven billion Naira is not a joke. The rule of law must prevail in this issue. Let President Tinubu prove to Nigerians that he is sincerely committed to accountability in his administration.”
