The interim leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), headed by former Senate President David Mark along with other members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), convened a strategic meeting with all 37 state chairmen of the party, including the chairman from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in Abuja on Wednesday.
This meeting took place amidst increasing political speculation regarding internal rifts within the ADC, with the objective of dispelling rumors of dissatisfaction and reinforcing support for the party’s ongoing coalition-building initiatives and reorganization plans.
After the closed-door session, ADC’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, addressed the media to clarify the purpose of the meeting, stating, “We invited all the state chairmen to reassure them that we have no intention to marginalize them. The aim is to dispel all the misinformation and rumors circulating that we intend to take control of the party from them.”
Abdullahi emphasized the leadership’s commitment to an inclusive approach, referring to the state chairmen as “partners in the effort to build a more robust political party.”
He noted that the meeting had successfully bolstered the confidence of party leaders from various states.
“They are departing Abuja today more confident than ever that they are essential stakeholders in the future of the ADC,” he remarked.
In response to recent comments made by the party’s former presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, who questioned the legitimacy of the coalition process and the establishment of the new leadership, Abdullahi dismissed these concerns, asserting that the party was on firm legal ground.
“A presidential candidate is not an officer of the party; he is merely a member. If anyone possesses evidence that we have breached our constitution, they are welcome to contest it. However, thus far, no member of the ADC has opposed the process,” Abdullahi stated.
Additionally, during the event, Hon. Kingsley Ogga, chairman of the ADC Forum of State Chairmen and the Kogi State party chairman, reiterated the unwavering support of the state chairmen for the initiative. and the mission of the coalition under the leadership of Senator Mark.
